Easy Tips to Avoid the Dreaded...Freshman 15.

Unfortunately when we're in college, we tend to let loose track of what we are eating and drinking...which could result in unwanted weight gain.

One way to tell if this is happening and you're in denial: you avoid wearing jeans and fitted clothing on a daily basis...

These small tips may help correct this issue in a quick and timely manner!

Tip 1: Try not to eat past midnight.
Numerous times, we have seen the same girls ordering out or munching on unhealthy snacks in order to stay awake to write a paper or study for an exam. Instead of pizza or junk food, try chewing gum or eating healthy snacks like celery, carrots, apples, or yogurt.

Tip 2: Walk instead of taking public transportation.
Now if your in suburbia it may not be as easy to walk everywhere...but I know people who choose to call a cab for a mile walk. So go that extra mile. Your jeans will thank you later.

Tip 3: Obviously, don't deprive yourself.
We always hear this but, we tend to ignore it most of the time. I know that when Queen E and Queen V start a diet we try to cut everything bad out. This always ends in disappointment. So ignore the whole "waste not, want not" saying, and have half the cookie.

Tip 4: Watch the alcohol.
Many people get to college and go crazy.  This is bad for your body for many reasons, but lots of people forget that there are extra calories in drinks....from the Starbucks lattes to alcoholic beverages, keep it to a minimum.

Tip 5: Try to exercise at least three times a week.
We all know how intense and busy college is, but doing even the bare minimum for cardio-vascular exercise is better than nothing! Go for a light run or a walk! Sign up for a yoga class at the gym! Most colleges have some workout programs! Not to mention the gym is always a great place to meet guys...

Oh and girls, please, please, please don't turn to unhealthy ways to loose weight!  Smoking, starving yourself, or using diet supplements are NEVER a good idea.

Remember we are all beautiful at every size...
but if you notice some unwanted extra pounds creeping on, it can be easily fixed with these quick tips!

Rainy-Day Makeup

Ever have one of those days where you just feel tired and groggy?  Well today was one of those days for me.  Not only was it actually raining, but I also had course registration, ugh!

Needless to say I was feeling like I needed a little pick-me-up, and coffee wasn't going to do the trick on it's own.  So, I decided to go for a fresh, clean make-up look to help me look and feel a little more awake.  Here's what I used:

On my face I used:
-Revlon Colorstay Foundation for Combination Skin (I mixed 200 Nude and 110 Ivory)
-MAC Moisture-cover under eye concealer in NW20
-MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural powder in Medium
-MAC Matte Blush in Desert Rose

On my eyes I used:
-Urban Decay's Eyeshadow Primer Potion
-Petticoat Pink all over my lid (from Lauren Luke's "My Vintage Glams" palette for Sephora)
-Silver Slippers on the inner corners and under the brows (also from the "My Vintage Glams" palette)
-MAC Satin Finish eyeshadow in Haux in my crease
-L'Oreal Paris 16-Hour Infallible Eyeliner in Carbon Black on my upper last line
-Covergirl's Lash Blast Volume mascara on my top and bottom lashes (Use 2 coats on top and don't forget to curl your lashes for a wide awake look!)

On my lips I used:
-Maybelline's Color Sensational lip stain in "05 In the Buff"
-e.l.f. Hypershine Gloss in 3037-2 (a bubblegum pink color)

It literally took me 10 minutes to throw this look together, put on my rain boots, and run out the door.  You can e-mail us with any suggested looks or posts you'd like us to do at queeneandv@gmail.com, or just comment below!

Rachel Zoe's Climate Control for Under $100: Part 2, Accessories!

So yesterday we gave you the basic winter apparel essentials for your wardrobe...but no outfit would be complete without the accessories!  Here are some options for the accessories that Rachel Zoe recommends for under $100.

1) Faux Fur Bootie:  We all know that booties have been in style during the summer and into the fall season.  A way to make them warm and fun for winter is by purchasing a pair with faux fur.

This adorable pair of booties are available from Naughty Monkey on Zappos.com for $79.95.

An even more affordable option is available at Forever21.  These platform heels are available for only $32.80.

2) Chunky Scarf:  this winter, layering is totally in!  Layering chunky scarves on top of your outfit can add more interest to your look while keeping you extra warm.  Neutrals or colors/patters are great, especially with tassels on the ends.

This first cableknit scarf is from Urban Outfitters for $24.00.  The camel color is really versatile, but it is also available in other colors.

This scarf is available for $48.00 from Anthropologie.  This multi-colored option is very eye-catching and brings a lot of interest to any plain outfit!

3)  Earmuffs:  Now this may make you think of the silly, fuzzy things you wore when you were a little girl...but not anymore!  There are plenty of great options for the everyday, and super chilly, fashionista.
This pair of earmuffs are from UGG Australia for $75.00.  They are available at Saks, Nordstrom, and of course on UGG Australia's website.

4)  Moisturizer: moisturizer is a must year-round, but especially in the winter when the cold weather can dry your skin out.  So why not go with a festive scent that gets you in the holiday spirit?  Here are our recommendations!
Triple Moisture Body Cream in "twisted peppermint" from Bath & Body Works only costs $12.00.  Plus, right now you can get a great deal on gifts for yourself or friends with the "Buy 3 get 2 free" deal on all signature collection products at Bath & Body Works!  Just in time for the holiday season!

Sephora carries this limited edition, Philosophy body lotion in the scent "melting marshmallow" for $16.00.

5)  Tall Wedge Boot:  wedge boots are great for any college student or woman that does a lot of walking.  We especially loved these boots since they also incorporate the amazing thigh-high over the knee trend as well.

These boots are from Victoria's Secret "Report Signature" line for $99.00.  The laced-up detail on the back makes them over the top!

These boots are available from Sketchers for $99.00 as well.  The buckle detail adds a chic equestrian touch.

6)  Turban:  This is a trend that scares many people off...but when worn correctly, it can be super cute!  Here are a couple options that incorporate the turban feel while still looking like a winter hat.
This turban from Forever21 is $4.80.  The black is a great option because it is versatile so you can pair it up with many different outfits.

This turban is also from Forever21 for $6.80.  The beading and sequins add just enough to the bow detail.

7)  Gloves:  They are a must for winter weather!  But just because you have to wear gloves doesn't mean they have to be boring.  Here are a couple cute knit options.

For $48.00 from Anthropologie, these gloves are sure to keep your hands super warm, not to mention, cute!

These gloves from Old Navy are only $9.50.  They also come in a cool combo and a neutral combo to match any wardrobe.

8)  Rain Boots:  These are a great addition to your wardrobe since you can wear them any time of year when it rains...however they are especially helpful in the winter months when there is a lot of slushy snow on the ground.

From Sperry Top-Sider, these rain boots cost $75.00 and are available on Zappos.com or the Sperry Top-Sider website.  The crocodile texture is so cute and looks very similar to the Jimmy Choo rain boots that Hunter made exclusively for Saks this season (just at a much more reasonable price.)

These plaid fold-over rain boots from Target are $32.99.  The added fabric makes them extra warm while also adding an adorable detail!

And so completes our Climate Control for Under $100!  Now go out and get ready for winter, Rachel Zoe style.  You will look b-a-n-a-n-a-s!

Rachel Zoe's Climate Control for Under $100

Rachel Zoe is an icon in the world of fashion, and by signing up online for "The Zoe Report," you can get a little of Rachel's fashion advice every day!  She recently came out with a post, "Climate Control: Cool Weather Essentials Under $200" (http://www.rachelzoe.com/climate-control), and while this is great advice...the average college student doesn't have that much to spend on each item in their winter wardrobe.

That is why we decided to come up with our own list, "Climate Control: Cool Weather Essentials for Under $100!"

We'll start with Part One of our list, the apparel:

1) Trench Coat:  this option is a classic staple to any wardrobe, especially in the winter.  The most flattering version is double-breasted with a belt to cinch you in at the waist.
This trench is from Gap for only $79.99

This second option is from Hertage 1981 for $36.90

2) Oversized Vest:  either a cargo or a fur option can work here for this season.  To keep the look from being messy, make sure to pair it with leggings or skinny jeans and some cute boots!

This cargo vest is from Urban Outfitters for only $29.99 (originally $78.00).  Such a steal!

This option is AWESOME!  It's from Express for $69.99.  The vest is faux fur and has gorgeous sequined embellishment at the collar.  Pairing it with fitted cargo pants gives the feminine look some added edge.

3) Knit Leggings:  the look of leather and metallic leggings may still be in style...but knits are what's new and fabulous for cold weather...not to mention, they're perfect for wearing with winter boots!

These black knit leggings are a standard at $28.00 from Madewell.

Corduroy leggings, genius!  You can grab these at any Nordstrom for $34.00 and they come in black, chestnut, cobblestone (shown here), espresso, fig, and forest.

4) Cozy Knit:  a chunky knit is perfect for keeping you warm on cold days while still looking chic!  Just like the oversized vest, make sure to pair it with something fitted/slimming on the bottom so you don't look sloppy.

This chunky cardigan from Victoria's Secret is $39.00 and available in many different colors.

This cardigan from Forever21 is $11.50 and is also available in various colors.  It's perfect for wearing alone or layering under a vest or jacket.

5) Knit Dress:  a neutral knit dress is the perfect variation on the regular sweater with pants.  You can pair it with patterned tights or leggings, and add accessories like a chunky scarf or vest when it starts to get really cold.

This knit dress is from Victoria's Secret for $68.00.  It is so unique because there is a tweedy feel to the knit.

Our second option is also from Victoria's Secret for $49.00.  This knit is extra warm since it is a turtleneck and the cable-knit detailing on the front makes it a standout.

6) Patterned Tights:  this is a great way to add interest to your look.  It is perfect for when you want to add more impact to your outfit than regular leggings can offer.

These split-patterned tights from Free People are $28.00.  Wear them with booties and a sweater dress for maximum impact.

This polka dot option from Forever21 is adorable and at only $6.80, they're a steal!

7) Faux Fur Jacket:  this item is wonderful because it is so versatile!  You can wear it with a t-shirt, leggings, and boots for a casual look...or pair it with a dress, tights, and heels for a luxurious going-out look.

This faux fur option is from L'affaire Couture (available on overstock.com) for $57.99.

Finding faux fur jackets for under $100 can be a little difficult but there are options: 1) wait for them to go on sale; and 2) go with the fur vest option!  There are tons of fur vests out there for way under $100 and they can have the same impact that a jacket would.

Happy shopping ladies!  Make sure to look out for Part 2 of our "Climate Control: Cool Weather Essentials for Under $100!" tomorrow when we cover accessories.

Trend: Matte Red Lips

Ever want an easy way to take your look from day to night in a simple step?  Why not try this season's matte red lips?  The best way to effectively rock the trend is by having simple makeup on the eyes and face.

Day look:  Here I am wearing foundation and blush on my face with some champagne eyeshadow, a swipe of black liquid liner that is winged out just a bit at the end, and of course, you can't forget the mascara!
Now we'll switch it up for a night look with some matte red lips!
1) Using a red lip-liner like L'Oreal's Colour Riche in Always Red, line your lips along the natural lip line.
2) After lining the lips, fill in the rest of your lips with the liner to prevent your lipstick from fading during the day leaving that dreaded outlined look.
3) Swipe on a coat of your favorite red lipstick.  I recommend any MAC lipstick from the Viva Glam line or if you want to stick with L'Oreal, use their Colour Riche lipstick in British Red.

And that's it!  I would also recommend going for red colors with a blue undertone rather than a coral undertone to keep your teeth from looking yellow and to make the look appropriate for fall/winter.
